What's it about?

Have you ever thought about infectious diseases and why we get infected? What is the causative agent? In this course you will be touring through four modules, starting by taking a close look at the bacterial cell structure and functions which will then lead you to the study of viruses.

Have you ever thought about infectious diseases and why we get infected? What is the causative agent? In this course you will be touring through four modules, starting by taking a close look at the bacterial cell structure and functions which will then lead you to the study of viruses.

You will go through the differences in the different types of cells which will allow you to distinguish the two major groups of bacteria and techniques. Next, you will focus on Forensic Microbiology, its history and how this discipline has evolved. Finally, we will look at the latest molecular techniques used for detecting microbes’ genetic material.

    Sereen has a PhD from the University of Western Australia and is specialised in Microbiology research and teaching Forensic Science.

    Sereen has a PhD from the University of Western Australia and is specialised in Microbiology research and teaching Forensic Science. Her passion for all things microbial came from childhood where she gained an interest in disease and how to find out what causes them. Her curiosity from childhood grew and she quickly wanted to progress her career through her PhD and research so she can contribute back to humanity to help solve world problems. She has been able to do this through the Jordan University of Science and Technology where she was promoted from a lecturer to Assistant Dean in her second year where she continues to teach today.
